Modern Asian Baking at Home

A doctor of physical therapy by day and an avid baker by night, Kat Lieu is the founder of the popular online baking group called Subtle Asian Baking (SAB) and the author of the philandmama.com blog. As if that weren’t enough, she’s just released her first book, Modern Asian Baking at Home: Essential Sweet and Savory Recipes for Milk Bread, Mooncakes, Mochi, and More; Inspired by the Subtle Asian Baking Community (Quarry Books, 2022). This book is full of recipes for traditional sweet and savory Asian bakes, as well as more contemporary recipes with innovative Asian twists. We can’t wait to try Kat’s Miso-Mochi Brownies or her Spicy Gochujang Flourless Chocolate Cake. There’s even a recipe for homemade boba, if you’re feeling inspired. Other enticing recipes include Kat’s Fluffy Japanese Pancakes, Lemony Matcha Macarons, Tangzhong Milk Bread and Vietnamese Egg Dalgona Coffee. There’s beautiful photography throughout this book, which is a must-have for lovers of Asian baked goods, whether they’re sweet and savory.
